Three colour mixing of 10,444 census wards on an equal land area map — software by author on an Archimedes computer.
Compare this map with the previous enumeration district cartogram (Plate LXXIII). Most of the country is covered here in grey or light pastel shades implying very low numbers or no overseas born population at all. Major cities create the impression of being jet black ghettos, many of which are only just visible. None of the detail of pattern in population space can be made out in this image which presents a simple, incorrect, message. These are some of the people who are hidden deep within conventional maps.
