The distribution of Overseas born place of birth, 1981 (Colour).

Three colour mixing of 129,211 census enumeration districts on an equal population cartogram software by author on an Archimedes computer.

A very strong set of patterns is shown here. Half of Britain is practically empty of people who were not born on this Island, the rest of the country presents some colourful mixtures. London holds the majority of lifetime migrants of all groups and hence appears as a dark mass. The West Midlands shows a tendency for more Asians to live on its western side, Irish on its east, and those from Africa and the Caribbean on both sides. Liverpool and Glasgow contain some predominantly Irish communities. The city centres of Manchester and Leeds also show distinct clusters.
