Political swing on the electoral cartograms of Northern Britain (Colour).

Showing 1955-1987 votes for the Northern half of the 705 consistent parliamentary constituencies (Appendix C) on the equal population cartogram - software by author on an Archimedes computer.

In the north the picture is dominated by the Labour party. These are key frames taken from a film which shows how the vote has swung to make Scotland the major Labour stronghold, and take Northern Ireland away from the Conservative party. The pictures are a little dark as they are in the original colours used for a computer monitor. Effective printing to paper requires the hues to be substantially altered.
