The change in employment by industry, status and gender, 1984-1987 (Colour).

Showing results of the 1984 and 1987 censuses of employment by 633 parliamentary constituencies on the equal population cartogram, coloured by the 1987 general election results - software by author on an Archimedes computer.

Those areas which gained jobs did not necessarily swing to the Conservative party who were in power, and those which lost employment did not always turned towards the Labour party as the major opposition. Aberdeen South forms a distinctive shape and colour, however, as do other places such as Croydon North West and Greenwich in London with have swung to the Labour and Liberal parties respectively, following dramatic industrial restructuring.
