One dimensional chaos taken from frames of an animation of the complex plane made by the author with public domain software on an Archimedes computer. Colour shows the rate of divergence to infinity.
The same point in the plane is being repeatedly magnified. By the end of the series the image is a million times larger in resolution. At this point the arithmetic accuracy of the computer begins to fail and the image dissolves into darkness. We naturally appreciate complex images. There is no need to smooth out the beauty and diversity of reality either.
