The detailed national composition of industry in Britain, 1981

The mix of employment by employee’s status and sex is shown in over sixty industries for the entire nation from the national information system using reflected histograms — software by author on an Archimedes computer.

The detailed division of labour between men and women, in full-time and part-time employment is shown for all the major industries. The predominance of male full-time employment in manual labour such as mining, but also in research and development firms is very skewed. Almost as many women work part-time as full-time.
