The density distribution of votes in 2,924 electoral divisions (Rallings C. & Thrasher M., 1989) projected upon the electoral triangle and shown as surfaces from four different view points — by author, Ace Computing and !Works software.
By 1989 the highest peak has, remarkably, moved into the Liberal (Democrat) territory just over the Conservative border. Other high points are to be found in the centre of the Conservative and Labour territories, and in general there has been a move away from the centre of the triangle. Places have been sorted out into a line, curving from Labour to Conservative to Liberal strongholds.
