The density distribution of votes in 2,939 electoral divisions (Rallings C. & Thrasher M., 1985) projected upon the electoral triangle and shown as surfaces from four different view points by author, Ace Computing and !Works software.

The surface of local voting has changed dramatically in just a few years. The major summit of 300,000 voters is to be found in Conservative territory towards the Liberal border. A second minor peak of 180,000 has formed in the Labour territory as the vote has moved away from the Conservative/Labour contests to include the the Alliance.
