Print CXXV

British population two-way surface of the 1987 general election results (Colour).

633 mainland constituencies are shown, each of equal absolute volume, using the conventional colours to show the mix of voting software by author on an Archimedes computer.

Here, where a seat was won by the Conservative party the height is projected below the plane. The ground can be seen to dip down in the South, towards the capital, until a pillar of Labour seats burst through to be seen. This is only a minor palliative to the general complaint that perspective views obscure as much as they show, particularly as the complexity of a surface increases.
